Choosing the ZPHC 11mL Size

Remy Research stocks bacteriostatic water in three fills. The ProPeptide 3mL vial is the smallest, this ZPHC 11mL vial sits in the middle, and the ZPHC 40mL vial serves benches working through many lyophilised vials.

The 11mL size is the routine pick for most labs. Peptide vials in our catalogue do not include a diluent, so this vial is ordered separately and travels in the same cold-chain box as the rest of the order.

ZPHC also makes an 11mL version with 0.6% acetic acid for methods that name an acidified diluent. This page covers the standard formula, which contains no acid.

What the Benzyl Alcohol Does, and What It Cannot Do

How the preservative works

Benzyl alcohol disrupts microbial cell membranes, so bacteria introduced after opening struggle to reproduce. That is the meaning of bacteriostatic: growth is held in check rather than wiped out.

No stand-in for clean handling

The preservative cannot rescue poor aseptic technique, contaminated equipment or a damaged seal. Stopper care and how often the vial is entered still decide how well it keeps.

Check compatibility before choosing

Normal saline is another common laboratory solvent, but our bacteriostatic water guide warns that it can make acetate-salt peptides precipitate. Benzyl alcohol, for its part, may not suit certain assays or cell work, and there preservative-free water is the usual choice. The trade-offs are set out in bacteriostatic vs sterile water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the plain formula or the acidified one?

The plain one. It holds 0.9% benzyl alcohol in sterile water and no acetic acid. The acidified ZPHC vial is listed as a separate product.

Why should an opened vial carry a date?

Multi-access diluent vials are commonly discarded 28 days after the first puncture, whatever volume is left, because the preservative cannot guarantee sterility beyond that window. A written date removes the guesswork.

Does the preservative make careful technique unnecessary?

No. Benzyl alcohol suppresses bacterial growth; it does not sterilise. Clean stoppers, clean equipment and limited access still matter.

Is a lab report published for ZPHC bacteriostatic water?

Not at present. Remy Research has no third-party report for this vial; anything we have published sits on the lab results page.

Where can I buy ZPHC bacteriostatic water in Dubai?

Remy Research packs it into the same chilled courier box as your vials. A Dubai address gets it on the same day if you check out before 4 PM, typically in about four hours. Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the northern emirates get it a day later when the order lands before midday. Costs are explained on our delivery page.

Is it suitable for people or animals?

No. It is sold strictly as a laboratory material and is not intended for human or veterinary use.
